  • Cretonne

Cretonne may be a plain, twill or satin weave fabric, printed with large designs, similar to unglazed chintz. It consists of well-twisted, fairly round yarns. The warp yarns are finer than the filling yarns, which are spun rather soft and loose. Cretonne contains much foreign matter that adds to the overall appearance of the finished cloth. True cretonne is woven with a printed warp and white filling, resulting in a soft muted pattern. It can be made from cotton, silk, polyester, rayon, linen or blends. It is a relatively strong fabric that wears well.
